For the TP-Link TC7650 modem that you recommend, it's this one for CAD $112.49, right?. After browsing the web for a bit more info, I also read that combo modems & routers are a bad idea because they aren't as flexible, so thanks for confirming that. So upshot? The TP-Link TC7650 is available on Amazon.ca and would be my first choice.
TECHNICOLOR MODEM REVIEWS UPGRADE
The Hitron just seemed a little better in build quality.and it was a known issue and I didn't feel like buying another Puma chipset device since soonish we're going to get DOCSIS 3.1 and need to upgrade again anyway (we're still a couple or so years away from widespread adoption and there aren't many modems out there yet (approved(?)) anyway, so no need to be concerned on that score). While the TC-4350 was fine.I preferred the Hitron. I did use the TC-4350 briefly while troubleshooting an upload issue with our service: Tek sent us one as loaner to rule out our Hitron (there wasn't a modem issue).
For example, I could now upgrade our router as I upgraded our modem, whereas if we had a combo box we would have to either get another combo box or a standalone and ssy. The DPC3848V is a combo modem/router box and I don't care to recommend them as stand alone routers/modems give you greater flexibility with your upgrade processes. Now the modems mentioned so far are just modems. The TC7650 doesn't have the Puma 6 chipset so will retain resale value better than the TC-4350.
Actually, you also could get the TC7650.Which I actually just purchased to replace our Hitron CDA-3-20.
